I Want to buy shares in Facebook

Contact a stockbroker, either by phone or online, and tell them you want to buy Facebook shares, which will be available under the FB ticker.
There is a straightforward search facility on the website of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers, an industry body. Go to the “find a firm” section of its website and highlight the search for “international dealing”.
A few years ago it was near-impossible to buy overseas stocks from the UK, but the process is now pretty easy.
If you have never traded US shares before, you will need to fill in a two-sided W-8BEN form to confirm your foreign status for tax purposes. It is very quick and does not need to be sent anywhere. The broker is simply required to have it on record.
Most brokers will require you to pay the money for your first trade up front, although many will happily buy up to £10,000 of relatively reliable stocks on your behalf after that, without prior payment.

They might have trouble getting their hands on Facebook stock for the first couple of hours of trading, but things are expected to ease up after that.
Most stockbrokers will accept orders of as little as one share, worth $38 in the case of Facebook’s debut. Buying a single share is a popular choice among people who want a trophy certificate, for example in a listed football club, but Facebook investors will have their shares recorded on Nasdaq’s electronic systems instead.
However, the broker’s fee means you are unlikely to make a profit on an investment of this size.
“We would make more money on it than you would,” says David Battersby, an investment manager at stockbroker Redmayne Bentley
